About Me
Working with dogs has been something I've been drawn to from a young age. Growing up around them, I was always observing, learning, and building connections that would eventually shape my professional path. What started as a natural affinity has grown into a practice built on formal education, mentorship, and years of hands-on experience.
I began my formal training journey in Bangalore, India, under the mentorship of Shirin Dhabhar, a pioneer in canine behavior, where I earned certifications in basic obedience, therapy dog training, and advanced behavior work. I also had the privilege of learning from the late John Rogerson, whose practical, creative approach continues to deeply influence my work today. Combined with over seven years of hands-on experience, these foundations have shaped the trainer I am now.
As a dog trainer based in San Jose, I work with dogs and their families across the Bay Area on everything from puppy training and basic obedience to behavioral challenges including reactivity, separation anxiety, and leash pulling.
My approach is rooted in positive, rewards-based methods, but equally in structure and clear communication. Every plan I design is tailored to that specific dog, their environment, and their family. Beyond obedience, I focus on building genuine engagement between dog and owner. A dog that is truly connected to their owner is more responsive, more willing, and more enjoyable to live with.
Over the years, I've worked hands-on with hundreds of dogs across a wide range of breeds, temperaments, and backgrounds. I have extensive experience with popular breeds such as Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Poodles, and a variety of Doodles, as well as smaller breeds like Shih Tzus and Dachshunds. I've also worked extensively with mixed-breed and adopted dogs of all sizes and varied histories, which has sharpened my ability to assess behavior carefully and adapt quickly to each individual dog.
My own dog, Koda, a young Australian Shepherd, gives me a daily perspective that I bring into every session. Living with a sensitive, high-drive breed means I'm always working on my own skills as much as I'm helping others with theirs!
I hold a CPDT-KA certification (Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed) and am a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT). I continue to build on these foundations through workshops, seminars, and ongoing education, ensuring my methods remain current and effective.
If you're starting with a new puppy, working on obedience, or navigating a behavioral challenge, I'd love to help. Feel free to get in touch and we can talk about what your dog needs.

Don't just take my word for it. Here's what some of my clients and their dogs have experienced working together.

I highly recommend Alisha as a dog trainer! She has been instrumental in training our puppy, and the progress we've seen is incredible. She deeply cares for dogs, and our puppy absolutely loves her. She is also patient and brings a wealth of experience in both training and general care. We appreciated her detailed explanations which helped us understand the why behind the behaviors and training methods. In addition her puppy training program was well structured yet adaptable to suit our needs. Overall, she is responsible, skilled and genuinely loving and we are glad she is our puppy's trainer.
